A woman has been sentenced to serve seven years in prison on a charge of culpable negligence manslaughter in connection with a death from illicit silicone buttocks injections.
Natasha Stewart, also known as Pebbelz Da Model, was found guilty Jan. 31 in the death of Karima Gordon, 37, of Atlanta.
Hinds County Circuit Judge Bill Gowan sentenced Stewart, of suburban Memphis, Tenn., to seven years in prison and eight years of suspended time for manslaughter. He ordered her to serve five years at the same time on a conspiracy to commit culpable negligence manslaughter charge.
Prosecutors said Stewart took $200 to refer Gordon to Tracey Lynn Garner, a floral and interior designer, who is charged with giving the injections at a house in Jackson.
During her trial, Stewart testified that she thought the woman who performed the procedure was a nurse. Stewart also said she had gotten the injections herself more than 20 times.
Gordon died from silicone in her lungs a few days after receiving the injections in March 2012, investigators said.
Stewart said she regrets Gordon’s death and was blinded by desire for “outer beauty.”
Garner is scheduled to stand trial in March.
